How do we end up agreeing on certain ideas? As we persist in repeating them, social contracts begin to form, and over time some rather absurd “truths” arise—such as those embedded in various religious and political belief systems. Every first Friday at 3:02 Eastern, the colony awakens. Not 3:00. Not 3:05. 3:02. In apartments, studios, and makeshift broadcast stations, individual termites begin their work. Some lay down rhythmic foundations like the steady chewing through heartwood. Others deposit melodic pheromone trails for the group to follow, audible trophallaxis.

They digest archives, field recordings, electronic textures, and fleeting voices. The tunnels they carve channel not air but magnetism. They communicate through listening rather than instruction, sensing the collective direction through the accumulated mulching into their own constructions.
